A visual Pic of the 10 Essentials Let's Talk about the ten essentials on hikes and climbs. How many times do we run into the situation in which a hiker or climber is lost that they do not have the means to find their way to civilization? All the time! I know here in the Pacific Northwest it happens at least a couple of time throughout the season, and sometimes leads to their death. However, these deaths are so unnecessary if they had the proper equipment, also known as the ten essentials. What are the 10 Essentials The ten essentials are an easy list to remember. They can be found on most hiking and mountaineering websites, so there is no excuse for not finding them. Here is the list: Navigation (Map, Compass, and GPS) Sunglasses and Sunscreen (you may even need this during the winter) Extra clothing Flashlight First aid Fire ( Fire Starter) Repair kit Extra food Hydration (H2O) Emergency Shelter ...
